Returning Home

This last weekend, I went to surprise my parents for Father's Day weekend.  I had not seen my mom since my wedding last summer, so after 11 months of being apart, she was due for a surprise visit.  I knocked on the door of my parent's home, and my mom gave me a face of shock as I said "hey, mom".  Travis, my big brother, caught the whole thing on video.

There's something rejuvenating about returning home, and being around the people who have known you for your whole life. In the place you grew up, it's easy to just be yourself. Even after months (or years) apart, with family you can go right back to where you left off.

The 18 hours spent riding in the car, was well worth the 36 hours I got to spend in the town I called home for so long.  It was such a treat to have a family dinner, play with my nephews, take my dad out for breakfast on Father's Day, and to be a guest in the lovely home my brother and his wife have made together.
